How we help
Gentle care that changes as your body does, trimester by trimester. Adapted positioning, nothing forceful, and everything explained before it happens. It works alongside your midwife, obstetrician or GP, never instead of them.
Over nine months your centre of gravity shifts forward, your lower back takes on more curve, your pelvis loosens and your ribcage has to make room. Aches through the lower back, pelvis and hips are common with all of that, and common does not have to mean you simply put up with it.
Care during pregnancy here is aimed at pregnancy-related lower back and pelvic pain, and at keeping you comfortable and moving. That means working on how evenly the joints of the lower back and pelvis are moving, easing muscular load, and giving you practical advice on sleeping, sitting and getting in and out of a car without wincing.
It is worth being straight about what this is not. Pregnancy chiropractic is not a treatment for the pregnancy itself, and we make no claims about your baby's position, your labour or your delivery. The focus is your own comfort and movement, in your back, pelvis and hips, while you are carrying.
Technique and positioning are modified throughout. As lying face down stops being possible, we use pregnancy-appropriate positioning and support. Force is reduced, particularly around the pelvis, and if something does not feel right on the day, we adapt.
Your maternity team stays in charge of your pregnancy. Murray will ask who is looking after you and is glad to work in with them. Anything outside musculoskeletal care, including bleeding, severe or sudden pain, reduced movements or high blood pressure, goes straight back to your midwife, obstetrician or GP without delay.
Murray and Jade have three kids, so the practicalities are familiar territory. The advice tends to be specific and usable, because it comes from a household that has been through it rather than from a textbook.
Most common through the second and third trimesters as the curve of the lower back increases and the load in front of you grows.
At the front or back of the pelvis, often worse rolling over in bed, climbing stairs, or standing on one leg to get dressed.
Later in pregnancy, as the ribcage is pushed upward and outward and the mid-back stiffens up in response.
Care can be modified for pregnancy and many women have it for musculoskeletal comfort. Whether it is appropriate for you depends on your history and how your pregnancy is going, which is what the first appointment establishes. Talk to your midwife or obstetrician as well.
No, and we will not tell you otherwise. There is not good evidence for that and it sits outside what chiropractic care is for. This is about your comfort and movement.
Positioning is modified with pregnancy-appropriate support. Once lying face down is no longer comfortable or possible, we use side-lying and other positions.
Women come in at all stages, including before conceiving and after birth. The technique changes with the stage, not whether care is available.
Yes, please do. They are running your pregnancy, they should know everything you are doing, and Murray is happy to communicate with them.
Postnatal aches, particularly through the lower back, pelvis and upper back from feeding and carrying, are very common. Come in when you feel ready.
45 minutes, gentle and modified for your stage. $59 for new patients.
